The last few days of 2008

31st December

We all go out to a typical Swiss pub for lunch and have a quiet afternoon. It started snowing by 5pm and it got heavier and heavier. We have a lovely meal at home in the evening before going out to celebrate the New Year in the snow although it has warmed up (still well below freezing) slightly and walking in the snow is not the easiest.
Sadly the fireworks which are usually amazing were disappointing due to the weather conditions and we all return to the apartment at 1am to celebrate the UK New Year, so we had two New Years!

30th December

Andrews mate Dave arrives from London on the early flight to spend a few days in Zurich with us. A very relaxing day.

29th December

Time to leave Grindelwald but not before we are stopped in our car by a Guernsey man! He recognised the Guernsey number plate - well who wouldn't? it does stand out a bit in Europe - and we had a chat.
We make the journey back to Zurich and the apartment. We venture out for some food shopping and just chill out for the rest of the day. It is much colder in the city now and there is evidence that they have had snow whilst we were in Grindelwald.

26th - 28th December

We continued to enjoy our stay at The Parkhotel Schoenegg, Richard, Andrew & David skied each day whilst Rosie walked in the mountains. We were all impressed with the hotel, it was a lovely family run business and nothing was too much trouble. We will return. We met lots of very interesting people. It is such a small world,  one man from Somerset was a retired teacher who had taught a family friend of mine and another lady from Suffolk knew an English family living in Zurich who Richard had met in 2005.

Sounds like you guys had a good new year and Christmas, very different from the hot weather we had here, in fact it feels like we haven't had Christmas yet!
